Festivals always provide an opportunity for more interaction with your customers and target audience, and one of the ways they do that is to offer an activity tied to your book. The last time we had a festival, we were at The Brooklyn Book Festival and we gave away fairy buttons with every purchase of a book.

Alas, the supplies for fairy button making were still at the fairy button store. So I had to improvise. Take two character drawings from your book, prototype how they would stand in three dimensions, and add two main characters in charcoal pencil, scan everything in, provide cutting lines as a guide, and voila! Paper dolls!

It helps to have a graphic designer partner or spouse who can size and template said drawings, of course…

Come check out the Crowded Kingdom Paper Dolls, the craft activity to make them, and more at Madison Square Park’s Fall Kids Fest on Saturday, October 19th, 2013, from 11 am to 2 pm!
